Airway (breathing tubes) diseases like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are common causes of a chronic cough. Both conditions involve inflamed and narrowed airways. In asthma, this is caused by overly sensitive airways in response to triggers. COPD meanwhile is typically caused by smoking, an irreversible lung damage that worsens over time.

Pneumonia is a lung infection caused by various pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, tuberculosis, and occasionally fungi, Pneumonia cases can range from mild, moderate, to severe with common presenting symptoms like cough, fever, and shortness of breath.

ILD are a diverse group of chronic conditions characterised by inflammation and scarring (fibrosis) of the supportive tissue of the lungs. ILD may be triggered by environmental exposure, medications, autoimmune issues, or unknown cause (idiopathic) in some cases.

Pleural diseases (Pleural is a cavity between the lungs and the chest cavity) typically may involve inflammation or fluid accumulation (pleural effusion) from infection, inflammation or malignancies.

Lung cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the lung tissue. It is categorised primarily as either non-small cell or small cell lung cancer, and is most frequently linked to smoking though environmental factors do contribute. Early stages often present without symptoms, while later stages may involve advanced symptoms like unexplained weight loss and breathlessness. We utilise advanced diagnostics for early detection and deliver personalised, multidisciplinary treatment plans to optimize patient outcomes.

Sleep Disorders Medicine specializes in diagnosing and treating conditions like sleep apnea, insomnia, and restless legs syndrome, which significantly disrupt normal sleep and impact overall health. These disorders can lead to poor sleep quality, fatigue and serious health risks, necessitating accurate identification through specialized diagnostics such as Polysomnography (sleep study).

My sister has a rare mitochondrial disease with breathing difficulties. Dr. Ian has been managing her respirator (NIV) treatment for many years. He is very dedicated, compassionate kind, and professional in every aspect. I don’t think I’ve met another physician who is so patient. Serving is his true vocation—he’s in it because he genuinely cares, and it doesn’t feel like it’s for monetary gain .

I would like to express my deepest appreciation for the care provided by Dr. Ian Soo during my EBUS procedure. Despite my fear & anxiety about the procedure, Dr. Ian provided clear communication, and his empathetic approach made all the difference. What truly stood out was Dr. Ian’s ability to connect with the patient not just clinically, but emotionally—treating them with compassion and dignity throughout. It is rare to find a doctor who blends professionalism with such warmth and humanity.

Thank you, Dr. Ian! We flew from JB to KL for my dad’s EBUS-TBNA procedure, and we’re truly glad it was done under his care. Dr. Ian was very responsive and took the time to communicate with me closely before the procedure. On the day itself, he explained everything thoroughly and patiently, which helped ease our concerns. Even after the procedure, he continued to follow up and patiently answered all our questions. A truly dedicated and compassionate doctor, we are grateful for his care and professionalism throughout the whole process.

What is the Pleura? The pleura is the thin, double-layered slippery lining that surrounds your lungs and the inside of your chest cavity. It allows your lungs to glide smoothly against the chest wall when you breathe.
A pleural disorder happens when there’s an issue with this membrane or the fluid around it, often causing pain or difficulty breathing due to conditions like infection, inflammation, or the presence of tumors.
